Media & Tech: Being Awake

Hello again. Today, I’m going to write to you all (“all” being some 2-3 people) about “the thing that keeps [me] up at night.”

Being awake certainly keeps me from falling asleep. Whenever I’m awake, I’d much rather stay awake — at least until I have done everything on my spontaneous mental checklist. Sure, I might make that checklist up as I go, but still: I need to stay awake until I check all the boxes! Maybe there’s some video I’ve been editing that I am desperate to complete, or some homework assignment I really should’ve done before completing that video. Or maybe I’ve been waiting on a couple packages that I really want to open: In that case, I just need to check all the boxes I’ve been waiting on so eagerly.

This is sort of what I look like when I am not sleeping. When I am awake, I am generally either sitting or standing.

Regardless of the reason for staying awake, I know that one cannot be both awake and asleep at the same time. For this reason, I have yet to fall asleep whilst awake; It keeps me up at night constantly. I only start falling asleep when everything is done, and I no longer feel “temporally obligated” to stay conscious and out of the sleep-zone, lest I REMember something I needed to do whilst deep in slumber, and wake up in the morning realizing that I missed something quite important.
